The cycling world is mourning the devastating loss of Finlay Tarling, the highly promising young Welsh rider who died at the age of just 19 following an accident during the Volta a Portugal on Friday, 14 August.
Tarling, riding for the NSN Development Team, was competing on stage eight of the Portuguese race, a 166.8km route between Melgaço and Fafe, when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle that was not part of the race convoy. The incident occurred near Ponte de Lima while Tarling was behind the main peloton. Despite emergency medical assistance, his injuries proved fatal. The remainder of the stage was neutralised and the podium ceremony cancelled.
